Born and raised in Trenton, NJ, I began my musical journey at the tender age of 11. Inspiration? My father Victor Colon Marrero and my older brother Victor Colon, Jr. Both self taught guitar players. Following their footsteps, I picked up the classical guitar and learned to play good enough to participate in many Paranda's (Christmas Caroling) a tradition for Puertoriqueños. I played the acoustic guitar until one day a gentleman (Bassist) by the name of Benny came over my house to rehearse with my brother who back then was auditioning for the hottest band of that era Cisco Solis y su Orq. Kachú. Benny who was considered one of the top bassist during that era placed the very first bass I ever held in my hands. I'll never forget that day. Eager to learn, I accompanied my brother on a tune that night. Benny looked at me and said "Use my bass and amp for a little while and practice." Here 32 years later, playing the bass has become a big part of life. Because the bass slot was taken in Junior High School, I was asked to try the trombone instead by then Music Teacher Mr. Ferguson Jenkins who also had me sub on tuba occasionally. This is where I was first exposed to reading music. Later on I discovered that bass and trombone music was basically the same and written in the same clef and all I had to do is learn the mechanics of the instrument. I studied music during middle and High School with Tommy Grice and after High School went on to private studies with several teachers one of whom was a big inspiration to me Composer/Arranger/Sax/Vibes and Educator Bucky Harris. Here is where I acquired better reading skills and theory which lead me to arranging and composing. I'm currently a member of the Cintron Band as well as freelancing with other Salsa and Latin Jazz bands throughout the tri-state area. When I'm not on the road, I'm sitting behind the controls at my studio producing other artist. I currently own and operate Myco Productions Studios. Performances as a sidesman....
